Chapter 12

S he was awakened sometime later by the doorbell.

Disoriented, she climbed out of bed, threw on a short silk robe and padded barefoot from the room, turning on the lamp in the foyer before she reached the front door.

“Who is it?” she whispered cautiously.

“Open up, angel,” came the husky command.

Her stomach flip-flopped. She hurriedly opened the door and stared in shock. “River?”

Without a word, he snaked one arm around her waist and dragged her up against his hard chest. She gasped, her senses filled with his masculine heat and the lingering spice of his cologne.

She stared into his hooded dark eyes. “What’re you do—”

He lowered his head, his mouth closing hungrily over hers. The kiss was deep and hot and intoxicatingly seductive, stealing her breath and weakening her knees.

She wound her arms around his neck as he kicked the door shut and then backed her up, sliding his tongue between her lips and licking the inside of her mouth. Her eyes fluttered closed as every nerve in her body tightened with need.

When he skated his palm over her breast, her nipple peaked against the silky fabric of her robe. She clung to his strong shoulders, trembling as his big hands slid over her ass and pressed her up against him, forcing his hard erection into her belly.

She moaned and rocked against him, the flesh between her thighs growing slick with arousal.

He made a guttural sound in his throat and picked her up. She wrapped her legs around his hips, hooking her ankles at the small of his back. His expression was fierce with intent as he carried her through the darkened condo to her bedroom.

Before she could wonder how he’d known exactly where to go, he was setting her down by her bed, keeping one arm around her waist to hold her steady until she regained her balance.

“I can’t believe you’re here,” she whispered in the darkness. “I can’t believe you turned around and came all the way back home.”

His chuckle was a low, sexy rumble that curled her toes. “After the way you tortured me on the phone, did you really think I could stay away?”

She grinned. “I suppose not.”

He kissed her again, sucking her bottom lip as her pussy grew hotter and wetter. She whimpered when he released her mouth to turn and switch on the bedside lamp. When he saw the orange roses arranged in a vase on the nightstand, a pleased smile curved his lips.

“They look good next to your bed.”

“Not as good as you’re gonna look in it,” Morgan purred.

His smile turned rakish. Staring at her from under his lashes, he slipped her robe off her shoulders, letting it fall to the floor at her feet. She was wearing a short pink nightshirt that was practically see-through.

River licked his lips, lust darkening his gaze. “You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this moment.”

“How long?” she breathed.

“Too damn long.”

Her pulse pounded wildly as he took off her nightshirt, pulling it over her head. And then she was standing naked before him, her nipples hard and achingly tight.
